Keep a permanent browsing history

# Last updated: October 22, 2026

Your browser's history is a short, shallow record: a window of recent visits, stored as titles and URLs. Datarag keeps a permanent browsing history instead — the content of the pages you read, saved and indexed so you can search it months or years later.

How long your browser keeps history

Google's help page for Chrome says that your History lists the pages you've visited on Chrome in the last 90 days (Chrome Help: Check or delete your Chrome browsing history). Those entries are page titles and URLs, and Chrome's history search only matches those. A page you read last year, or one whose title you've forgotten, is hard to get back that way. For a side-by-side comparison, see Datarag vs. Chrome History.

What Datarag keeps

Datarag saves and indexes the content of every page you read after it has fully loaded, not just its title or address. That record is permanent: it doesn't disappear when your browser clears its cache, and there is no rolling cutoff. It's searchable in plain language from any device you use Datarag on, because your history syncs across browsers and devices. Google Meet transcripts are kept in the same searchable history.

What removes it

A permanent browsing history still has clear limits, and you control them.

  • Deleting your account. This removes all of your data at once, and it can't be undone.
  • Losing your PIN. Your history is encrypted with keys derived from your PIN, and Datarag's servers can't decrypt it. Without the PIN, the data can't be recovered and has to be reset.
  • Pages that are never saved. Incognito and private browsing aren't captured. Adult, gambling and social media sites are filtered out automatically, and you can switch page indexing off at any time.

See /security for how your history is encrypted and stored.
